2023 Cricket World Cup Men’s – August marked the beginning of the journey towards the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, with the start of the first series of the Men’s CWC League 2; this week sees the inaugural Men’s CWC Challenge League, three steps away from India 2023 at the foot of the track.
There are two challenge leagues A and B, each consisting of six teams, each playing 15 games over two and a half years. Canada, Denmark, Malaysia, Singapore, Qatar and Vanuatu make up Group A, while Group B consists of Bermuda, Hong Kong, Italy, Jersey, Kenya and Uganda.

Malaysia will host the inaugural Men’s CWC Challenge League A between September 16 and 26, with each team playing five matches over 11 days.

Teams will compete in the Challenge League A and B once a year in 2019, 2020 and 2021. The league will have a total of 90 competitive 50-match fixtures in List A for teams ranked 21-32. The top team in each league at the end of the competition will secure two of the six places in the 2022 Men’s Cricket World Cup qualification play-offs, along with the bottom four places in Men’s CWC League 2.
Malaysia captain Ahmad Faiz said: “We are excited to host the first match of the CWC Challenge League A. The team has been training hard for this tournament. We are definitely looking forward to playing against struggling teams and aiming for as many wins as possible.”
Denmark captain Hamid Shah said: “I’m really looking forward to the new event structure, it gives us the opportunity to compete against very strong teams across three tournaments.
“There’s a lot of cricket ahead of us and the boys are very excited to be playing in Malaysia’s first Challenge League. We’ve had success in Malaysia before so hopefully we can pick up where we left off.”

Vanuatu captain Andrew Mansale said: “As our team matures, I’m really looking forward to playing better cricket. This is the highest level Vanuatu has achieved and we will continue to improve. ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley speaks ahead of the first Challenge League. “The introduction of a new four-year qualification structure for the Men’s Cricket World Cup has given international cricket a clear and simple route to the top event. Challenge League and League 2 teams will play more organized and competitive cricket thanks to the new structures.
“We look forward to the inaugural Challenge League, are delighted to be working with the Malaysian Cricket Association again and to see the great venues hosting ICC events.”
The first Challenge League B event of the Men’s Cricket World Cup is scheduled to take place between November 25 and December 9 and will be hosted by Hong Kong.

The much awaited clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for Saturday, October 14 in Ahmedabad. Their last encounter in the 2019 World Cup was a highly successful affair with India taking a huge win in Manchester.
Pakistan will face Australia in Bengaluru on October 20, while England face South Africa the following day in Mumbai.
India will take on New Zealand to avenge their 2019 semi-final defeat on October 22 at the picturesque Dharamsala, while Australia will face arch-rivals England on November 4 in Ahmedabad. The defending champions pushed the Aussies into the final four years ago.
India await England, who defeated them in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, on October 29 in Lucknow.

The first semi-final will be held on Wednesday, November 15 in Mumbai and the second semi-final will be held the next day in Kolkata. Both semi-finals will have a day off.
The final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, with November 20 as the reserve day.
There will be a total of 10 locations – Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata.
Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram apart from Hyderabad will host warm-up matches from September 29 to October 3.
