2023 World Cup in Which Country – In the draw for the 2023 World Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday, the USA drew with Vietnam (July 22 in Auckland), the Netherlands (July 27 in Wellington) and the winner of the next tournament (Portugal, Cameroon or Thailand); August 1 in Auckland) on the E side. Here are my three thoughts on the draw:
• Many reminders of recent matches for the USA here. USA-Netherlands is a replay of the 2019 World Cup final (won by the USA) and the 2021 Olympic quarterfinals (also won by the USA). Both teams will be heavy favorites to make it out of the group, although the Netherlands will have a new coach in Andries Jonker (replacing Mark Parsons). The start with Vietnam, the first World Cup team from Asia, has some similarities to the start against Thailand in that famous 13-0 drubbing from 2019. And look, the Thais come again as a possibility of the final (although Portugal will be preferences). If the USA leaves their group, their opponent in the Round of 16 will come from Group G (Sweden, Italy, South Africa and Argentina) and take place in Australia (Sydney or Melbourne).

• In many groups, there are two choices on paper to improve. The Women’s World Cup is a 32-team tournament for the first time, which is a good thing overall as more countries get a chance and thus an opportunity to grow the women’s game globally. But there will be more matches at the group level and perhaps the biggest difference between the top two teams in several groups and the rest. This will include Group B (Australia and Canada), Group C (Spain and Japan), Group E (USA and Netherlands), Group F (France and Brazil) and Group G (Sweden and Italy). However, this is not the case in other groups such as Group A (New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland), Group D (England, Denmark and China) and Group X (Germany, South Korea, Colombia and Morocco).
• There are nine national teams that are capable of winning this World Cup. For me it is USA, Australia, Canada, Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Sweden and Germany. (I’m not including Japan, Brazil or Norway.) Australia wouldn’t be on that list if it hadn’t hosted the tournament. But nine is a reflection of how the women’s game is improving in many countries, and developing in Europe in particular. Spain, Holland and France have major training issues that could derail their campaigns, but what is likely to be uninspiring group stages will be rewarded with knockout rounds that should show some match I have resigned to be in Australia and New Zealand for this tournament next year.

Australia are the strongest contenders going into any ICC event and will again bid for glory under Pat Cummins. The five-time World Cup winner lost the ODI series against India and South Africa last month and also slipped to third in the ICC ODI team rankings. However, a win against India in their first game will turn the tide for Australia and they have every reason to believe in a World Cup title.
But what are the fans thinking or predicting ahead of the very important India vs Australia match? We conducted a fan survey on both English and Hindi websites and on our official Twitter page to understand the opinions of fans a day before the India-Australia match. Fans were given four options to vote – India, England, Australia and others, and 12,568 people voted across platforms to give a clear answer. Cricket fans have shown strong faith in Rohit Sharma’s India team with 78% votes. Nine per cent of fans voted for champions England despite a heavy defeat by New Zealand in their World Cup opener. Australia were favorites for glory as 8% of the vote went to Pat Cummins’ team.

Apart from the obvious contenders India, England and Australia, new champions New Zealand and South Africa’s leading Themba Bavuma will fancy their chances of being the maiden ODI World Cup title.

The tournament will last for 46 days and will see 10 teams battle it out for the Men’s One Day International (ODI) final on November 19.
The ten teams participating in this year’s event are India, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Two-time champions West Indies were a shock failure after failing to grab one of the nine qualifying spots.
India was given an automatic spot as the host nation, while nine other countries had to go through a qualification process spread over three years in various stages and mini-tournaments.
Seven teams – including defending champions England – qualified based on their transfer to the ICC Super League which runs from July 2020 to May 2023.
The Netherlands and Sri Lanka took the bottom two spots after coming out on top in the knockout stages earlier this year.

The first phase of the ODI tournament will be a round-robin format where all teams will play each other once, resulting in 45 matches. The first phase will conclude on November 12 with the match between India and the Netherlands in Bengaluru.
The four best teams at the end of the round-robin stage will qualify for the semi-finals. The first and fourth-placed teams will play the first semi-final on November 15 in Mumbai, while the second and third-placed teams will meet in the second semi-final on November 16 in Kolkata.
However, if Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals, they will play the match in Kolkata regardless of their position in the table; and if India qualify they will play in Mumbai. If the two teams meet in the semi-final, the match will be played in Kolkata.
Which country will host the 2023 Cricket World Cup?
The competitions will be spread across the length and breadth of the country, from Chennai in the south to Dharamshala in the north, Kolkata in the east, to Ahmedabad in the west.
Before the final, the biggest game of the Cricket World Cup – or any cricket match involving two teams – will undoubtedly be India vs Pakistan.
The marquee match is being held on October 14 in Ahmedabad. Indian media reported that online tickets sold out in less than an hour after they went on sale.
