AHMEDABAD: India on Wednesday unveiled the world’s largest cricket stadium in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a move that drew immediate praise and criticism.
The renaming of the Narendra Modi Stadium has been unveiled at the 132,000-seat venue known as the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where India play England in the third match of the four-match Test series.
A brilliant orator and contemporary populist, Modi is India’s most popular and recognizable politician, winning a second term in power in 2019 with a majority for the nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BHJ).
