Pakistan’s October 15 clash against arch-rivals India in Ahedabad may be huge from the point of view of fans on both sides of the border, but it is certainly not the end from a cricketing point of view, according to the Tea director and head coach Ickey Arthur.

“I don’t think Pakistan and India will all participate in the World Cup,” Arthur told Pakistani YouTube channel “Cricket Baaz”.

“From the fans’ point of view, from the emotional point of view and the relationship between the two countries, you can understand the interest it creates and the emotions that come from it. But from a cricket point of view I think it will be good against Everyone. Tea if you want to win the World Cup,” added the South African.

Arthur was intent on reducing the pressure ratio and in fact had already started the ental gaes stating that the pressure would be on India.

“The expectations for Indian tea will be very high in the World Cup. They are a good team and how good they will be will depend on their ability to absorb the pressure that will come when they play hoe,” he said.

Arthur said he too is looking forward to the match but to see how Pakistan can handle the pressure.

The Australian coach also insisted that the Pakistan team had not asked for the match against Afghanistan in Chennai to be played in Bengaluru.

“Yes, we discussed it, but it was just a discussion. It wasn’t like all our plans depended on us not playing Afghanistan in Chennai. Look, any tea would want to play Afghanistan somewhere else.”

He admitted that the impression created by the news that Pakistan had asked to swap seats with Afghanistan and Australia was not well received and gave a negative feeling about Pakistani tea.

Arthur, who previously coached Pakistan Tea between 2016 and 2019, also confirmed that he told the former PCB president that he wanted Babar Aza to be the captain.

Asked if he had stood up for Babar when rumors were circulating that former PCB president Naja Sethi and many people around him wanted a change of captaincy, Arthur confirmed that he had spoken to Sethi and said that Babar had developed well as a leader.

“Babar is a source of pride for e. The way he has grown as a world-class batsman and grown as a leader.”

“Our new philosophy of playing cricket the ‘Pakistani way’ revolves around Babar. He is completely in sync with and and the rest of the agency that this is the way we should play cricket now.”

Explaining the “Pakistani way”, Arthur said it is about playing as a team and believing in yourself.

“It’s about letting everyone know that I and the rest of the officer fully support Babar in whatever decision he makes and that everyone is there to watch each other’s backs.”

“And obviously it’s also about going all the way and not holding back on the field. Pakistan are very talented and on their day they can beat any tea anywhere,” concluded Arthur.

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif feels that frequent changes in the captaincy in the last two years have not been beneficial for Indian tea. Latif believed that if India persevered with Virat Kohli as captain, India would be fully prepared for the next ODI World Cup by now.

In an interview with YouTube channel Cricket Baaz on Wednesday, Latif said: “If they had allowed Virat Kohli to continue as captain, India would have been 100% ready for the World Cup with this tie.”

Latif noted that countries like England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa will introduce innovative strategies and tactics in the 50-over tournament to be held in India from October 5 to November 19.

“One area where I feel Asian teas will struggle to accommodate these sides is especially in the off-spinner when high pace is required even in the 50 overs,” the wicket-keeper batsman said.

“England, Australia and New Zealand batsmen have switched to reverse running and are nowadays converting shots against spinners reassuringly and very lethally.”

He also noted that England are particularly adept at using their spinners in the gaps.

“A bowler like Adil Rashid or someone like Oeen Ali buys their wickets, while our spinners focus on bowling economically. This will be one of the biggest World Cups and I don’t think Asian teas will benefit any more because it will be held in India.”

Latif, who played in the 1996 and 2003 World Cups, also noted that India are struggling in selection and lost the recent T20 series in the West Indies because they did not allow the new players to settle in properly.

“Indian Teapot had experience with few players and if I talk about their batting in inactive and lower order, say 4 to 7, they simply did not allow any new player to settle in with frequent changes.”

Latif also felt that Pakistan should also use Fakhar Zaan as an opener and ensure that the batsmen make full use of the inactives.

He said that the 50-over format is perhaps the most difficult format now and that the Teas need one or two batsmen who can anchor one end and guide the other batsmen through the innings.

Latif said Ben Stokes’ return to England makes the team extremely balanced and stronger now at the World Cup.
