Cricketer India – India seems safe for the Cricket World Cup. Did they “choke”? Blaming the lack of a bottle is unfair
Editor’s note: India won all the first matches of the tournament on 19 November. lost the cricket world cup final.

SEVERAL COUNTRIES enjoy global sporting dominance as India rules cricket. Home to the largest number of sports enthusiasts, India controls most of its revenue and produces most of its athletes. The fullness of this cricket can be seen at the Men’s World Cup, a quadrennial celebration of the sport hosted by India. In front of an enthusiastic crowd and an environment optimized for their style of play, Team India annihilated all players.
I Don’t Suggest…
The team’s perfect eight-out-of-eight record will be extended on November 12 in their final group game against the nationally ranked Netherlands. India’s goal tally, a measure of a team’s dominance in the game, is almost double that of South Africa, who currently sit second among the top ten contenders. But as the tournament heads into the batting phase, the Rohit Sharma-led Indians will be acutely aware that statistical advantage does not guarantee a trophy.
New Zealand will compete in the semi-finals on November 15. The schedule suggests the Kiwis pose little threat, with India beating them comfortably in the group stage. But Indian fans are wary. 2019 and 2015 at the world championships, their team reached the semi-finals, but New Zealand and Australia were eliminated. India have experienced similar shocks in other international tournaments over the past decade.
After such a recent defeat – in the semi-finals of last year’s T20 World Cup – former captain Kapil Dev gave a simple reason for the defeat: India “came closer and then they choked”.
As a statement of failure, the choke appeals to fans and pundits everywhere – and not just in the game of cricket. Manchester City won the Premier League title last season after Arsenal spent 248 days in first place. Arsenal, football fans gleefully claim, have ‘hit the nail on the head’.
Cricket World Cup: Australia Crash India’s Party
It’s easier for fans to attribute bad results to the team’s mental deficiencies than to the skill or poor sportsmanship of the opponents. Truth is not right. Choking in its true sense is rare among elite athletes. According to Christopher Mesagno and the destroyed Hillogist, a two-person sport, chocolate is when I’m “worried about the pressure.”
By this standard, most claims of suffocation are without merit. India did very well in the recent T20 World Cup but there were surprises later against a strong England team. An analysis of India’s matches by cricket website ESPNCricinfo shows that the team’s performance does not fall under a lot of pressure.
In most cases, failure has a more banal explanation: the best enemy. Arsenal’s failure to win the Premier League was not due to a lack of legendary bottles. They were overtaken by Manchester City, who won 11 in a row.

Choking happens, of course. The South African cricket team provides one compelling example. in 1999 in the World Cup semi-final, the Proteas were one run away from victory when madness struck. Lance Klusener and Allan Donald won the easy races – both finishing at the back of the field – to introduce Australia at the start of the final. To call this event a “minor decline” would be putting it mildly.
India’s World Cup Dream Ends In Tears As Australia Claims Sixth Title
And the choker label stuck. South Africa’s withdrawal from the tournament is regularly scrutinized for signs of mental weakness. The C-word will no doubt be used freely before (and possibly after) South Africa play Australia on November 16. in the other semi-final.
But while getting rid of the choker is difficult, helping players perform under pressure is easy. A new study sheds more light on how stress prevents athletes from thinking short-term, causing them to overthink and derail key tasks. More is also known about possible solutions. These include pre-game activities (such as deep breathing) and dual-task exercises (where participants practice game skills while doing another task to make the first one second).
The most important thing is that there is a desire for such activities. The England men’s football team have experts to help them beat penalties. The best tennis player in the world, Iga Swiatek, travels with a comprehensive psychologist. Such examples are becoming more and more common.
However, for all their good works, psychologists cannot underestimate the effectiveness of opposition. And they cannot count luck. India may yet stumble into the semi-finals or even the final. The motto of the current World Cup is “it takes one day”. Bromide shows that success is always within reach, but so are failures in the big games.■1 of 7| Indian captain Rohit Sharma celebrates his century during the ICC Men’s World Cup match between Afghanistan and India in New Delhi, India, Wednesday, 2023. Cricket World Cup: How Old Will The Current Indian Team Be And Who All Will Still Be Playing?
India suffered a defeat in the 3-day first test against South Africa. Only Kohli stands on 76
“It’s a good win for us because it’s important to make progress early in a tournament like this,” Sharma said. “It was a good pitch and I just went out to play naturally. My job is to start the runs and I want to put pressure on the opposition. It’s a special feeling to get another hundred. In the World Cup.”
It was Sharma’s seventh World Cup – the most by an Indian batsman – and 31st ODI. He is now third in the all-time list of ODI hundreds behind compatriots Sachin Tendulkar (49) and Virat Kohli (47).

Kishan scored 47 runs off 47 balls with four fours and two sixes in his innings. Kohli ended India’s night with 55 not out off 56 balls, including two fours
