The event created a long-term legacy for women’s cricket in South Africa, inspiring a new generation of girls and boys to take up bat and ball. This was highlighted by host country broadcast data, which saw a 130% increase in live coverage, including the final – with South Africa participating for the first time in an ICC event, men’s or women’s, available on free-to-air television. Total attendance for the event broke previous records, with a 790% increase in fans enjoying the World Cup compared to the previous edition in 2020.

Impressive engagement was also seen in India, with total hours of live viewing across linear TV and digital platforms up 57% compared to 2020, despite India failing to reach the final, reflecting demand from women’s cricket fans in the country . Overall, the most watched match in India was Women in Blue’s group stage series against Pakistan, which was watched live on Star Sports and Disney+ Hotstar for a total of 32.8 million hours.
In England, the World Cup totaled 6.9 million hours, an increase of 26% on 2020 and 16% on the 2018 event, making it the most watched ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to date .
Across ICC digital channels, video views increased by 26% across all channels, with the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup garnering 1.39 billion video views compared to 1.1 billion for the 2020 edition in Australia.
On the ICC website and app, the numbers represent the largest audience for a women’s event – 12.5 million unique users across both platforms – 20% more than the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, demonstrating the ICC’s investment in some of the first features on needs of the women’s event, a VR ShotTracker was provided, where fans can see replays, and every six, a vertical video feed containing highlights of matches and matches from each match, as well as some activations in the stadium for fans in attendance.

South Africa automatically qualified for the tournament as host nation. They are joined by the top-ranked team in the ICC Wom T20I Rankings as of November 30, 2021, who are taking part in the ICC Wom T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.
Before the tournament, each team selects a 15-person squad and can replace injured players.
In August 2022, the ICC announced that the match would be played at three venues in three cities. Vue to Newlands Cricket Ground, St George’s Park and Boland Park.
Cricket Women’s World Cup
On January 27, 2023, the ICC appointed an all-women panel of match officials for the tournament. Apart from the referees, G. S. Lakshmi, Shandre Fritz and Michell Pereira were also referees of the match.
The tournament has a total prize pool of USD 2,450,000, which is distributed depending on team performance as follows:
Ahead of the T20 World Cup, participating countries compete in warm-up matches, which are played from February 6 to February 8, 2023. The match does not have Wom’s Twty20 International (WT20I) status or WT20 status.
