The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the tournament schedule of the Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. The 50-over World Cup will begin on October 5 with England playing New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The tournament will last 46 days and will feature 10 teams, including eight who have already qualified and two who will earn their places through the current Cricket World Cup qualifiers.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be played between England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad from October 5, the International Cricket Council announced on Tuesday.
The highly anticipated schedule for the Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 has been released just 100 days before the start of the marquee tournament, with the schedule revealed a year back in previous editions.
The delay was due to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) explaining that India could not unilaterally sanction the participation of the Pakistan cricket team, which had been released earlier, as they were awaiting their government’s approval. “A total of 10 teams will participate in the exhibition event, with the first eight teams having already qualified through the Cricket World Cup Premier League. The final two places will be decided at the end of the qualifying tournament which ends on July 9 in Zimbabwe,” said the ICC.
“Each team will play nine other teams in a round-robin format and the top four teams will qualify for the knockout stage and semi-finals,” it added.

India will face New Zealand in Dharamsala on October 22 to avenge their semi-final defeat in 2019. It was also former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s last ODI. Meanwhile, Australia will face arch-rivals England on November 4 in Ahmedabad. Four years ago, the defending champions entered the final after defeating the Australians.
Clearing the fog surrounding the knockout matches, the ICC announced that the first semi-final will be held on November 15 in Mumbai and the second semi-final on November 16 in Kolkata. The governing body of cricket has kept reserve days for both the semi-final matches.

The first phase of the ODI tournament is a round-robin format where all teams play each other once, resulting in 45 matches. The first phase will conclude on November 12 with a match between India and the Netherlands in Bengaluru.
The top four teams at the end of the round robin stage qualify for the semi-finals. The first and fourth placed teams will play the first semi-final in Mumbai on November 15, while the second and third placed teams will meet in the second semi-final in Kolkata on November 16.
