Rohit Sharma’s 85 in India’s win in the second T20I against Bangladesh was another addition to his many knocks in a brilliant T20I career so far. Let’s take a closer look at his numbers and records, which show why he is one of the best batsmen in the format.
Games Across Formats Isn’t Easy: Rohit Sharma Hails Virat Kohli’s Feat
Rohit has had a good run so far in 2019. He started with an ODI century against Australia in Sydney in January and followed it up with another five at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019. He carried that form over to the five-day format, scoring 529 runs from four innings in the home Tests against South Africa.
With that kind of form, a big mistake in a T20I was not far off. After all, this is the form in which he first caught the attention of many, during India’s successful campaign in the inaugural edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007. On Thursday, November 7 , India’s stand-in captain hit 85 off him. just 43 balls, including six hits to the fence and just as many overs to help his side clinch the three-match series.

Rohit Sharma Total T20 Century
The second T20I against Bangladesh in Rajkot marked Rohit’s 100th T20I appearance, making him the second man to reach the target after Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik. He remains one of only three Indian players to have featured in every edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
There has been a fierce rivalry in the run charts between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit for a long time now. So far Rohit is leading with 2537 runs from 92 innings. His best result came in 2018, when he made 590 runs from 18 innings at an average of 36.88, including unbeaten double hundreds against England and the West Indies.

Rohit is the only player to score four T20I hundreds; Australian Glenn Maxwell and New Zealander Colin Munro got three each. The second of them came with just 35 balls, against Sri Lanka in Indore in December 2017 and became the fastest partnership with South Africa’s David Miller and Sudesh Wickramasekar in the Czech Republic. Sharma’s 118-ball 43, which included 12 fours and 10 sixes, took India to their T20I total of 260/5.
Stunning Rohit Sharma Century Takes Momentum Away From England In The Afternoon
Rohit has 18 fifties, second only to Kohli’s 22. Along with his four hundreds, this makes him the record holder for the most 50-plus scores in the format. Perhaps the most famous came in his first appearance in the format: scoring an unbeaten 50 in a must-win match against South Africa in Durban at the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup .
Rohit scored a convincing 50* in India’s 37-run win against South Africa in a Super 8 match at the 2007 ICC WT20.
Rohit has hit 115 sixes in T20Is, the most by any player in the format. A striking feature of his six punch is that it relies more on timing and maintaining form, rather than just targeting a muscle ball. He also hit 225 fours, the second most behind Virat Kohli’s 235; therefore, it leads the overall cut with 340.
Rohit made his debut in international cricket at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2009. Since then, he and Shikhar Dhawan have scored 1,740 runs from 51 innings at an average of 34.11 in T20Is: the most height with any pair in the form. They recorded four percentage points during their run, with their highest of 160 coming against Ireland in Dublin 2018.
