Rohit Sharma 264 Vs Sri Lanka

The 27-year-old hit 9 sixes and 33 fours in 173 innings to surpass the previous best of 219 set by compatriot Virender Sehwag against West Indies in 2011.
From Misfit To ‘hitman’: Mapping Rohit Sharma’s Inspirational World Cup Journey
It was Sharma’s second ODI double century after scoring 209 against Australia in Bangalore just over a year ago, becoming the first man to achieve the feat. Sehwag and former teammate Sachin Tendulkar are the only other players to reach 200 in One Day Internationals.
Sri Lanka were made to pay as Thisara Perera dropped the right-hander after scoring just four. Seekkuge Prasanna also bombed Sharma for 201 and was eventually dismissed on the last ball of the innings.
“When I turned 50, I knew I had to score a century because it was a good batting card and we knew 350 was easy to reach. It made me want to stay there as long as possible,” Sharma said. “It’s important to look at the team score because that’s how you build your serve.”
His innings, Virat Kohli’s contribution of 66 better than a runball, helped India post 404 for 5. Sri Lanka could only manage 251 in reply in 43.1 overs. India leads the five-match series 4-0.

He even remained zero in one of Angelo Mathews’ girls. By the end of the innings, his batting had become cartoonish.
There wasn’t a shot he didn’t make. He did not use any part of the land. Not the player who escaped his brutality. Rohit has amassed 45 more runs than any ODI batsman has ever managed in an innings. He finished with 264 off 173 balls when he was finally caught on the last ball of the innings. India, almost by accident, moved to 404 for five despite traveling for less than six runs in the first 32 overs.

Rohit’s innings was so ridiculous that the first 100 runs scored by the run ball look painfully dull compared to the next 164. The peak actually started before he reached his century when he made 14 runs in four balls, from the 30 Nuvana Kulasekaran. Soon after, the ball bounced off the middle of his stick on almost every shot he made.
Rohit, Rahul Hit Centuries As India Crush Sri Lanka
There were many incredible knocks, among his 33 fours and nine sixes, but the most terrifying was a six from Kulasekara in the 48th over when he went over the stumps and hit a half-volley from about a leg and a half. took it off and flicked it high over the midwicket boundary. It was the kind of hitting and serving that seemed open against physics.
Sri Lanka played a tour match against Mumbai to warm up the series but little did they know that Rohit was warming up against them. He scored 145 off 111 in that match – his first competitive game since breaking his finger in August – and has now ascended to the top of India’s batting rankings in the most beautiful way imaginable.
The most depressing aspect of the scourging in Sri Lanka was their complicity in it. Shaminda Eranga picked up a thick outside edge from Rohit in the fifth over and although the ball was moved comfortably to Thisar Perer in the third over, he smashed the chance. At number four, Rohit becomes the third Indian centurion to be dismissed in the early stages. So it stands to reason that since he scored a double century, he should be dismissed twice. Seekkuge Prasanna put him on when he bowled another direct chance from Rohit in the 46th over and this time the batsman was on 201.
Kulasekara strayed too straight in front of Rahane, especially, who picked him for fours down the leg side to lift India’s innings on a delivery for a 14-run first over. Angelo Mathews and Eranga produced more disciplined spells with the new ball, picking up one each in the first 15 overs, but that’s as good as the visitors’ bowling. Sri Lanka’s lines and lengths got worse and worse from the 20th over until they became almost farcical from the 35th over.

Another beautifully orchestrated knock from India – between the 30th and 34th overs – earned them 67 runs and that was enough to knock the Sri Lankan batsmen out of their rhythm for the rest of the innings. Short, wide-legs, full thigh-highs and stylish buns were on display with alarming regularity, and the on-field look was almost as pathetic. Sri Lanka didn’t expect a strong start to the series due to a lack of preparation, but the two disciplines actually deteriorated significantly during the tour.
Joining on 59 for two, Kohli and Rohit put on an incredible 202 runs before an error between the batsmen saw Kohli run out for 66. It wasn’t even India’s most amazing partnership. When Rohit and Robin Uthappa came together in the 41st over, the score was 276 for 4. Together they scored 128 runs in 58 balls. Based on that, Uthappa’s contribution was 16 runs.
When Rohit hit Kulasekaran down Mahela Jayawardene’s throat at long-on, the record for the number of fours hit in an innings also fell, and Rohit got half of the ODI scores over 200. One record he missed by one over. , became Sunil Gavaskar’s record for most return balls. Gavaskar made 36 not out.

Kusal Perera tried to pull the short ball off the off stump and ended up scooping the catch with his arm to collect his second duck of the series. Tillakaratne Dilshan was still clearly split, but he outlasted his next two partners. Dinesh Chandimal had the pleasure of driving Stuart Binny to cover and Mahela Jayawardene was trapped by Umesh Yadav. When Dilshan fell himself without resorting to cover on the front edge, even Sri Lanka’s slim hopes of lowering the total were virtually dashed.

Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne put on a 118-run stand for the fifth wicket, with Mathews scoring 75 off 68 and Thirimanne scoring 59 after returning to the side. But while the batsmen progressed apace by normal standards, the run-rate continued to climb until it crossed 11 when the pair were dismissed in the 29th over. Thisara finished 29th and made 23 of them, eclipsing Karn Sharma. But the Powerplay came and he and Thirimanne fell to Kulkarni inside four balls to guide the tail. Kulkarni took two more over the lower order to finish with 4 for 34 as India cruised to another crushing victory.
