India cruised to victory in the second Cricket World Cup match thanks to some quick batting by captain Rohit Sharma. India scored 9.4 runs in the first 10 overs as Godai Sharma’s 273 sent the home team off to a flying start to secure their second successive win in the tournament.
He was supported by Ishan Kishan (47), but Sharma stole the show, breaking Chris Gayle’s record for most international sixes and becoming the first batsman in Cricket World Cup history. Kishan’s dismissal left Virat Kohli in a tough spot and received a warm welcome from the crowd.

Playing second fiddle to Sharma, who was eventually dismissed for 131, Kohli settled down early and decided to get India over the line, having failed to do so against Australia last time out. He produced a creative performance and scored 55*, as India won by 15 overs as they achieved their second half of the tournament.
Around 300 looked good for Afghanistan earlier in the day, but a wicket fell towards the end and left the batting on a less favorable track. Jasprit Bumrah was named among the Indian bowlers who took 4-39.
