Total Indian Cricket Players – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the annual player contract for the Indian team (seniors) for the 2022-23 season. The decision to review the agreement was taken during the Apex Council meeting in December last year. However, it was suspended for the new selection committee to be responsible. The contract sets retention fees for players and is divided into four categories – A+, A, B, and C.
The most notable change in the contract list is Ravindra Jadeja’s promotion to A+ grade. He is now placed along with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. Jadeja has been a consistent performer for the Indian cricket team and is a worthy candidate for promotion. Category A+ is the highest retention fee category in the contract list.

Hardik Pandya, who was recently announced as the new ODI vice-captain, has been promoted from Grade B to Grade A in the contract list. Now Pandya will get a retention fee of INR 5 crores. Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav were also promoted in the middle contract, moving from C grade to B grade.

On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Hanuma Vihari and Ajinkya Rahane lost their central contracts. The decision was made due to their previous performances which were not up to the mark.
Players like Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ishan Kishan and Shardul Thakur are included in the C grade.
While some players lost their central contracts, others were able to retain them but were relegated to the lower ranks. Shikhar Dhawan, who has struggled with his form recently, managed to keep his midfield contract but was demoted to Grade C. Cheteshwar Pujara, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj ended up in Grade B with Rahul being demoted from Grade A. Meanwhile, Akshar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Sami and Rishabh Pant were retained in Grade A.
