Tendulkar was his childhood idol in cricket. After India won their second World Cup title in 2011, Tendulkar carried Kohli on his shoulder at the Wankhede.

He scored a career-high 183 against Pakistan in 2012, followed by the fastest ODI century for an Indian batsman – off just 52 balls – against Australia in Jaipur in October 2013.

While Kohli has scored three centuries in the current tournament, he had previously scored only two centuries in the previous three World Cups.
He finished the group stage as the top scorer of the tournament with 594 and an average of exactly 99. That figure has now increased to 101.57.

Pune, Oct 19 () Indian batsman Virat Kohli scored his 48th ODI hundred as India chased down the 257-run target against Bangladesh in the ICC ODI World Cup at the MCA Stadium here on Thursday.
With this century, Kohli came close to Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries. Now a century is late for the iconic monument.
Chasing again Bangladesh’s 257 runs, Kohli was flawless in scoring a century in 97 balls. The former India captain scored 103 runs off 97 balls with six fours and four sixes.
Virat Kohli Becomes 7th Batter To Score Odi Century On Birthday
With this knock, Kohli overtook Mahel Jayawardene to become the fourth highest run scorer of all time in international cricket. He is now behind Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs), Kumar Sangakkara (28,016 runs) and Ricky Ponting (27,483 runs) on this elite list.
Kohli became the fourth highest run-scorer (1289) in ODI World Cup history, overtaking Brian Lara and Rohit Sharma. He is now behind Sachin Tendulkar (2278 runs), Ricky Ponting (1743 runs) and Kumar Sangakkara (1531 runs).
Kohli scored 259 runs in four innings at an average of 129.50 and a strike rate of 90.24 to become second in the run-scoring list, only behind Indian captain Rohit Sharma (265 runs).
