Virat Kohli Maiden Test Century
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) – West Indies were 86-1 up after Virat Kohli hit his first overseas century since 2018 for India on day two of the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval on Friday.
India were all out for 438 at the stroke of tea and then West Indies made their best start in the short tournament.
By the time West Indies reached 86 runs in Dominica, where India won the first Test by an innings over three days, the home team had five wickets and six down.
Captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul were slow and steady in a good position with a sticky spot outside. Brathwaite reached the lap on 37 with newcomer Kirk McKenzie on 14.

He started at 87; he had to worry all night if he could get his 29th Test century and 76th century across formats after falling for 76 in Dominica.
The visitors needed just seven goals on the day to reach the top level after Shannon Gabriel headed home his 10th. Kohli faced a 180 delivery. He bent down and kissed her wedding ring.
Kohli ended up making 121 off 206 balls when he tried to take a single shot and was run out by Alzarri Joseph’s delivery from four-leg. Kohli would have gone in if he dipped but his stand with Jadeja for 159 was broken.

While India scored in the morning, West Indies took two wickets overnight and had the better part after lunch.
India scored just 65 runs in 20 overs in the middle innings and lost the last four wickets.
Ishan Kishan caught Jason Holder behind on 25, while spinner Jomel Warrican dismissed Jayden Unadkat and Mohammed Siraj to leave India for nine.
At that time, Ravichandran Ashwin hit three boundaries off Roach to reach his fifty and was the last man out at the same spot for 56. Roach and Warrican shared three wickets each.

Ashwin’s half-century in the 19th century gave India an unlikely boost in the 100th match between the teams.
Brathwaite and Chanderpaul, battered by poor performances in Dominica, were content to score just two each in their 71-run partnership.
As Ashwin took 12 wickets in Dominica, the bowlers became more concerned about Jadeja, who took 1-12 in 10 overs on Friday. Freshman medium bowler Mukesh Kumar took 4 wickets and scored 10 runs.

McKenzie impressed as he smashed Ashwin for six and Jadeja through the covers for a boundary.

HYDERABAD // Another Virat Kohli double century enabled India to challenge Bangladesh in the first match in Hyderabad on Friday – but only after he was urged to resign.
In reply, Bangladesh were 41 for one at stumps on Day 2 after losing opener Soumya Sarkar for 15 in the last over of the day during their strong introduction to test cricket in the ongoing India.
Captain Kohli became the first player to score two consecutive centuries when he reached 204, the strongest performance in India’s 687 for six that included three centuries.

The players became the first international team to register three consecutive scores of over 600 after posting 631 in Mumbai and 759 for five in Chennai against England last year.
Bangladesh’s misery was compounded when Sarkar was caught by Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha off the bowling of Umesh Yadav in the top three penalties of the day.
Tamim Iqbal (24) and Mominul Haque (1) top scorers, the visitors still trail India by 646 runs.

West Indies Slow And Steady After Kohli Century In India’s 438 At Port Of Spain
“Virat supports everyone. He encourages us to play our natural game. He always gives us confidence and is a great help to the team,” said centurion Saha, who partnered with his captain.
Kohli, whose 246-ball hit included 24 boundaries, surpassed heroes including Don Bradman and Rahul Dravid, who had scored two tons in three consecutive matches.
Kohli has also scored two centuries in his last three matches against West Indies, New Zealand and England.
He needed a bit of luck, however, to get to his point after successfully retrieving a confident lbw shout on 180 from Bangladesh spinner Mehedi Hasan that was first delivered.
Th Test: A Mark Of Virat Kohli’s Brilliance
Saha made it clear that Kohli was ready to go and should be encouraged to review the decision made by the third umpire as television replays showed that the ball was sliding down the leg side.
“Virat thought he was out but I told him you might have stretched your front leg too much. So he picked up the phone and was saved,” said Saha.
Kohli, 28, was then caught lbw from Taijul Islam, who finished with three wickets, in the first over which saw the Indian middle-order run out.
Saha (106) managed to take an unbeaten seventh wicket of 118 with Ravindra Jadeja (60) as they made hay while batting tiredly during Bangladesh’s first Test on Indian soil.

Wicket keeper Saha scored his second Test century to the delight of the unsuspecting home crowd, including four sevens and two sixes, helping India maintain an impressive run for four overs.
Jadeja also raced to his fifth test fifty as he celebrated the milestone with his sword dance.
Earlier Kohli’s fourth wicket partnership of 222 with Ajinkya Rahane (82) put the players on course as they broke their previous score of 610 against Bangladesh in Dhaka in 2007.
Murali Vijay (108) and Cheteshwar Pujara (83) are also the world’s most famous number one Test batsmen, who have never lost a match in eight rounds.
