Virat Kohli Winning Trophy List

AHMEDEBAD, India (AP) — Indian batsman Virat Kohli extended his Cricket World Cup record to 765 runs from 11 games on Sunday — although that feat appears to have faded after his team lost the final to Australia.

Australia Wins Cricket World Cup

This is the highest knock in a single World Cup and Kohli broke another record held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Indian great Tendulkar scored 673 runs in 11 matches in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.

King Kohli, as he is sometimes called, won the first semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai as India won by 70 runs.

That day, Kohli broke Tendulkar’s record for most ODI hundreds, with his 50th century – 117 runs – becoming the leading batsman in the 50-over format.

Virat Kohli Poses With The Series Trophy

Kohli added 54 off 63 balls against Australia in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, where he helped rescue India from a perilous 81-3 to score his 72nd ODI half-century. But his efforts were in vain as Travis Head’s 137 helped Australia beat India by six wickets to win their sixth World Cup.

Kohli finished the campaign with an astonishing average of 95.62 in 11 innings and was named the player of the tournament. He scored three hundreds in matches against Bangladesh, South Africa and New Zealand, as well as six half-centuries in the tournament. As the Indian team prepares for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, they find themselves in a unique position. While the nation expects nothing less than a win on home soil, there is undeniable pressure that comes from a decade-long drought in ICC events in India. Despite their failures and valiant efforts over the past decade, the coveted trophy remains elusive.

This time, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the men in blue are determined to end this drought and win the ICC title, which they have not achieved since their Champions Trophy triumph in 2013.

Apart from Rohit’s captaincy, the man who will play a key role in India’s World Cup campaign is former captain Virat Kohli. Since the retirement of the legendary MS Dhoni, Kohli has been looking to add an ICC title to his impressive list of achievements. Speaking at the promotional event, the 34-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for the quadrennial event, which is scheduled to begin on October 5 in India. He described the challenge as something that excites him and the entire team, noting that they have an unquenchable thirst to win the title.

Virat Kohli Record As Test Captain

“Whenever you have a challenge, you look forward to it.” When a challenge comes your way, you get excited. There is no running away from that. After 15 years I still love meetings and the 2023 World Cup is one (invitation). It excites me, I need something new, you know, to take me to another level,” PTI quoted Kohli as saying.

Although they are fully aware of the weight of external pressure and the expectations of their fans, Kohli insisted that the desire to win the World Cup burns most strongly within the players themselves.

“The pressure is always there. The fans always say that we (the team) want to win the cup so much. I have more to say. So I’m in the right place. Honestly, I know there are expectations and people have feelings. But know that no one wants to win more than the players,” concluded the Delhi-based cricketer.

Currently, Kohli is actively participating in the preparation camp of the Indian team for the 2023 Asia Cup in Bengaluru. As an experienced batsman, who recently celebrated his 15-year journey in international cricket, he carries a huge responsibility in India’s efforts. He also won the Asian Cup and the World Cup.
