Virat Kohli is in good form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 tournament. In five matches in the Super 12 stage, the former India captain has scored three successful fifties. India will face England in the semi-final on Thursday at the Adelaide Oval.
The 34-year-old batsman has played a series of successful T20 matches. The timing couldn’t be better. He went three years without an international century before finally ending the drought at the Asia Cup in September, scoring his first T20I century in India’s final game of the tournament. It was his 71st international century.
Kohli revealed that MS Dhoni was the only person who texted him during the Asia Cup when he announced his retirement as India’s Test captain. Speaking recently on a podcast hosted by Royal Challengers Bangalore – which Kohli is a part of – he reiterated that Dhoni’s speech rang true for him. He admitted that it was captain Cool Dhoni’s message that helped him through a dark day when his performance faltered and he took some time to regain his cricketing mojo.
“The only person who really reached out to me was MS Dhoni. It was a privilege to have such a strong bond and relationship with someone so senior to me. It’s a friendship. A lot is based on mutual respect. One thing he mentioned in the same post is, that you are strong. When you expect to be, people forget to ask how you are doing. So it hit me, it was like this,” Kohli said in a video shared by RCB’s YouTube channel. .

In a conversation with host Danish Side, the Delhi-born cricketer said, “I have always been seen as very confident, very mentally strong and capable of handling any situation and situation”.
MS Dhoni, who calls Sachin Tendulkar his ‘cricket idol’, remembers the time when he wanted to play like the master blaster.
“Sometimes you realize that at any point in life you have to take a couple of steps back and understand how you’re doing and how your well-being is,” she added.

In earlier interviews, Kohli admitted that he felt lucky to captain under Dhoni. And has said that sometimes people tried to poke a wedge at his friendship with the former Indian captain.

This was India’s first ODI series win at home since March 2019. Even then, the Australians beat India 3-2 in the five-match series.
