Indian batsman Virat Kohli celebrates scoring a century on Day 4 of the fourth Test cricket match between India and Australia (PTI).
After a resounding comeback in all other formats, Virat Kohli ended a long wait of 1,205 days after completing a Test century against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Kohli’s 28th Test century came at a time when India were chasing a big score in the deciding match.
Indian cricket fans waited for almost 41 innings to witness the star’s second century. Kohli’s last Test century came against Bangladesh in 2019.
“600kg gorilla off his back,” enthused Ravi Shastri on the comment as Kohli lifted the bat, completing a single off Nathan Lyon. After the crowd gathered in the stadium, Kohli removed his helmet, smiled and kissed his neck.
Massive Moment: Virat Kohli Scores His 71st Century
The century takes his international total from 100 to 75 and Kohli has also equaled Sunil Gavaskar’s tally of centuries against Australia. Both players are currently second on the list with 8 Test centuries against the Kangaroos, with Sachin Tendulkar at the top with 11.
Kohli is coming out of a relatively tough phase which has also given him the Indian captaincy. He faced poor form across all formats and it was Asia Cup 2022 when things started to change for the star player. After that, he has done nothing but excel in all formats and this Test century will be truly special for him.
The same kind of magic was shown yesterday by youngster Shubman Gill who gave Australia a tough time and scored 128 runs. Gill and Pujara had a responsible partnership of more than 100 runs that helped Australia fortify against 480 in the first innings.
The fourth Test has been different as the batsmen have had more chances to score runs.

Virat Kohli celebrated his century during the Asia Cup Super Four match between India and Afghanistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (ICC Twitter).
Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has shared a short video of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli’s 71st century after nearly three years in Super Four Game 2022 against Afghanistan.
Mahindra tweeted Kohli’s special moment saying, “Wake up! True heroes roll with the punches and vindicate their actions…”.
Kohli ended the drought with his maiden T20I century and remained unbeaten on 122 off 61 balls to take India to 212-2 in Dubai.

He smiled as he celebrated with a wave of the bat and said: “So those angry celebrations are a thing of the past. I was really surprised. It was the last format I thought of (scoring a century). It was a collection. So many things. “
“The last two-and-a-half years have taught me a lot. I’m going to turn 34 in a month (less than two months – November 5),” he added.

Kohli recently spoke about his mental struggles and how he took a month off before the Asia Cup to regain his intensity, which he “faked” when his form dried up.
“The team has been open and supportive. I know there’s a lot,” he said.
“Six weeks off refreshed me. I realized how tired I was. The competition doesn’t allow that, but this break allowed me to enjoy the game again.”
The 33-year-old Kohli, who hit 12 sixes and 6 sixes, has also scored 27 Test and 43 ODI centuries in an impressive career.
