Lord’s was the scene of India’s biggest cricket victory till then as they defeated the two-time champions West Indies by 43 runs to lift the coveted trophy.

On 25 June 1983, Kapil Dev became the first Indian captain to win the Cricket World Cup.
Who Won The First T20 World Cup?
Their run to the final saw them get through Pool B with four wins from six, before facing hosts England at Old Trafford in the semi-finals.
In the final they faced the Windies, who were chasing a hat-trick in the World Cup, but were shocked by a determined Indian bowling team.
Batting first, India were bowled out for 183 in 54.5 overs as Chris Srikanth chipped in with 38 for them.
Given the talent in the Windies’ ranks, the total looks quite haunted, but some excellent bowling by India’s attack helped dismiss their opponents for just 140.
When India First Won At Lord’s And Changed The Story Of Cricket
Mohinder Amaranth and Madan Lal were the stars with the ball, claiming three wickets each as India cruised to a historic 43-run victory.
Although his team was eliminated at the semi-final stage, England’s David Gower still managed to top the scoring charts in the 1983 World Cup with 384 runs.
His 130 runs came in a superb 120-ball knock against Sri Lanka at Taunton, followed by 48 against Pakistan and 92* against New Zealand.
Indian medium pacer Roger Binny proved his mettle in English conditions when he finished the 1983 World Cup as the leading wicket-taker.

Binny, who played in all of India’s matches in the tournament, finished with 18 wickets, including four against Australia.
He opened the tournament with three wickets against the West Indies and repeated the feat when the sides met again later in the group stage.
Indian captain Kapil Dev rewrote the history books with his magnificent innings of 175 not out against Zimbabwe.
Not only was it the highest score in the World Cup at the time, it was also a record score in One Day International cricket.

The situation he found himself in when he came to the crease makes his effort all the more remarkable as India got 9 for 4 after his arrival.
It quickly became 17/5 but Dev countered with a single with 175 not out from 138 balls, including 16 fours and six sixes.
Winston Davies became the first sportsman to take seven wickets in ODIs with 7/51 against Australia in the 1983 World Cup.
His seven wickets helped West Indies to a convincing 101-run win after bowling out Australia for just 151.

Australia Wins Its 1st T20 World Cup, Beats Nz In Final
Since the West Indies won the first title in 1975, teams from around the world have met roughly every four years to name the one-day champions.
With all eyes on India in the latest edition of the tournament, here’s a look back at how the 12 events played out.
West Indies became the first ever World Champions, defeating Australia by 17 runs in the final at Lord’s.
Eight teams participated in the inaugural tournament, where the matches consisted of 60 overs per innings and used a red ball.
Netherlands Beat South Africa With Shock ICC Cricket World Cup Win
The Windies won all three matches in their group, beating New Zealand in the semi-final before firing to victory in the final thanks to a century from captain Clive Lloyd.
Four years later, the West Indies successfully defended the title alongside England, this time the defeated finalists at Lord’s.
Viv Richards’ unbeaten 138 saw the reigning champions set the hosts 287 for victory, while Joel Garner took five for 38 to help England to 194 as the Windies sealed back-to-back crowns.
India won just one match in the first two tournaments but won their first title in the third, defeating the West Indies at Lord’s to add a new name to the trophy.
India’s ICC World Cup 2023 Campaign So Far
After exchanging wins in the new group stage of the double round, India won the third meeting between the two countries in the final, Mohinder Amaranth hitting three 12-wicket winners as West Indies made 140 in pursuit of 184.
The first World Cup to be held outside England saw India and Pakistan join as hosts and a new champion emerged as Australia claimed their first title.
Both hosts topped their group but Australia and England clashed in the final with David Bone hitting 75 as Australia’s 253 proved insurmountable for England to chase their first 50-plus tournament.
In the inaugural tournament held in Australia, Pakistan won their maiden title by comfortably defeating England in the final of the first ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in colours.

Captain Imran Khan’s innings of 72 helped Pakistan post a total of 249 with England looking well settled before Wasim Akram dismissed Alan Lamb and Chris Lewis in consecutive balls.
Sri Lanka became the fourth consecutive new champions and the first ever victorious hosts when they comfortably defeated Australia in the final of the first 12-team tournament.
Despite losing man of the series Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana very cheaply, Arvinda de Silva’s unbeaten 107 steered the hosts to victory in Lahore chasing 241 with 3.4 overs to spare.
Australia joined the West Indies in two World Cup championships when they beat Pakistan at Lord’s in the five-nation tournament.

Co-hosts England and Scotland were knocked out in the group stage, with games also played in Dublin, Cardiff and Amstelveen.
Australia lost twice in their group, including against Pakistan, and cruised past South Africa in the last four after a memorable draw that saw Steve Waugh’s side progress thanks to their best run rate in the new Super Six stage.
The final was more one-sided, with Australia winning by eight wickets after Shane Warne took four for 33 to help bowl Pakistan out for just 132.
Australia retained their crown in South Africa, winning all their matches in the group stage and Super Six, including defeating co-hosts Kenya, who reached the semi-finals for the first time.

The Black Caps shone in the group stage, winning all their games, including a thrilling one-wicket victory over Australia in Auckland.
When they met again in the final, three wickets each from Mitchell Johnson and James Faulkner meant Australia needed just 184 to win, while half-centuries from Steve Smith and Michael Clarke turned them around.
In the most dramatic final yet, England won their maiden title, beating New Zealand on a count after the sides were level after 50 overs and a super over.
Both finalists lost three games in the group stage, finishing third and fourth, but won their semi-finals to ensure a new champion would be crowned at Lord’s.
