World Cup Test Cricket 2023 – The International Cricket Council has confirmed Australia and India’s squads for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final, which will be held at the Oval from June 7-11.
With the support period starting today, any changes to the team can only be made with the consent of the competition’s Technical Committee.

Announced as the final test, June 12 was designated as a reserve day to make up for any losses from the five days of competition scheduled for the WTC final.

This is the second edition of WTC, which was introduced in 2019 to add context to the game’s longest format. New Zealand became champions of the inaugural edition, beating India by eight goals in the final played in Southampton.
The winners of the WTC Finals will receive a purse worth $1.6 million, while the losers will receive $800,000. More details about the cash prizes can be found here.

Australia can still enjoy their victory over India in the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023, but they will have to quickly turn their attention to the next WTC series, which begins with a clash against arch-rivals England on June 16.

The five-Test Ashes series will kick off the 2023-25 World Test Championship series with 68 matches scheduled over 27 series and a third WTC final to be played at Lord’s in 2025.
The nine teams that will take part in the 2023-25 WTC series are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
Each WTC series in the series will consist of two to five tests, in which nine competing teams will play six series – three at home and three away.
Australia finished top of the standings en route to their first WTC upset of the 2021-23 season and captain Pat Cummins is confident he can deliver an exciting result to start the series against England.

“It has been a very enjoyable and rewarding journey through this World Test Championship and we look forward to the next series,” Cummins said.
– Our goal was to reach the final and the fact that we managed to win is a great result for the group.
“It’s a great start to our UK tour, but there’s still a lot of work to do before we have five tests.”
Similar to the 2021-23 WTC series, the England-India Test series will again be played on a five-match basis, similar to the Ashes.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between WTC 2023 finalists Australia and India will also be played in five Tests for the first time since 1992.
“We are looking forward to the new World Test Championship series and hope we get off to a good start,” said England captain Ben Stokes.
“I’m sure fans around the world will be eagerly following the events. We are excited about what the English summer will bring.”
ICC Director General of Cricket Wasim Khan also reiterated that the WTC has been great in boosting interest in Test cricket.

Khan said: “The third edition of the ICC World Test Championship will begin on Friday with another highly anticipated series between England and Australia.
“The Championship has strengthened Test match cricket, providing context for players and fans and a high level of competitiveness as teams fight to be crowned World Test Champions at the end of the two-year cycle.”

The nine teams do not necessarily play the same number of matches in the WTC series, rankings are determined based on a percentage of all possible points.

England will play a maximum of 21 Test matches during the WTC series, while Australia (19) and India (19) will also play regular five-day matches.
There are 12 points available for winning each World Test Championship Test, with four points awarded to each team for a draw and six points to each team for a draw. Loses earn no points, and teams may lose points due to the slow pace of play.
