NEW DELHI (AP) — Team India and vice-captain Hardik Pandya were expelled from the Cricket World Cup for undermining the hosts’ unbeaten campaign so far to win a third title.

The 30-year-old suffered a left ankle injury during India’s seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in Pune last month and is battling to regain fitness ahead of the knockout stages of the tournament.

Since then, he has missed matches against New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka as India continued their winning streak, going unbeaten in the tournament through their seven matches.
In Pandya’s absence, Mohammad Shami played all three matches and scored 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. The two-time champions became the first team to advance to the semifinals with two games remaining.
Pacer Prasidh Krishna was brought in as Pandya’s replacement, after obtaining permission from the ICC Tournament Technical Committee. The 27-year-old played 17 one-day international matches and took 29 wickets.
India will face South Africa in Kolkata on Sunday and then face the Netherlands in Bengaluru on November 12.

The most important thing is that there is a desire to carry out this kind of intervention. The English football team has experts to help them overcome the yips when taking penalties. Iga Svitek, the best tennis player in the world, travels with a full-time psychologist. Examples like this are becoming increasingly common.
But despite all their good work, sports psychologists cannot reduce the quality of resistance. They also can’t explain luck. India could still stumble in the semifinals or even the final. The current World Cup slogan is “It takes a day”.
