Thanks to Beth Mooney’s unbeaten 74 off 53 balls, Australia initially posted a competitive score of 156 for 6 and then restricted the hosts to 137 for 6.
Mooney’s batting proved to be a crucial factor as he single-handedly lifted the Australian innings with nine boundaries and over the fence.

Chaser Laura Wohlwardt (61 off 48 balls) played single-handedly while wickets continued to fall for the hosts at the other end.

South Africa got off to a slow start, losing Tazmin Britter in the fifth over and being caught by Tahila McGrath in the middle. McGrath ran back and held his head high to deny Darcy Brown’s bowling.
Wohlwardt and Marizanne Kapp (11) then shared a 29-run stand in the second inning before Ashley Gardner was caught by Brown.
There was more misery for South Africa later as skipper Sune Luus fell to 54 for 3 in 10.4 overs.

As the runs dried up, Wohlwardt went for a big surge towards a fuller throw from Megan Schutt, missed the ball and was adjudged LBW. The attack, South Africa’s last hope, was reviewed but failed as Australia sealed the game.
Left-arm orthodox spinner Jess Jonassen then accounted for Chloe Tryon (19) before Anneke Bosch played the ball out, dashing South Africa’s slim hopes.
Opting to bat, Australia lost early to Alyssa Healy (18), caught by Nadine De Klerk off the bowling of Marizanne Kapp (2/35) in the fifth over.

Ashley Gardner (21 off 29) then joined Mooney and the pair’s 46-run stand for the second wicket steadied the innings until South African captain Sune Loos caught the first long-on off the bowling of left-arm spinner Chloe. Leslie Tryon.
But Mooney went about his business in fashion, sending some wicked deliveries to the fence to keep the score alive on the scoreboard.
Grace Harris tried to increase the score but was cleared by left-hander Nonkululeko Mlaba in the 14th over as the shot went over the pitch.

While Mooney held one end, wickets continued to fall at the other end as Australia struggled to find boundaries towards the end of the innings.
South Africa took wickets at regular intervals towards the end of the innings with Mooney stuck at the other end.
South African pacer Shabnim Ismail (2/26) was instrumental in restricting Australia by removing Ellyse Perry and Georgia Wareham in quick succession. She scored a rare hat-trick in the final out, but Tahlia McGrath canceled out Ismail’s performance by managing a single in the final over of the innings.

DUBAI – Mitchell Marsh and player of the tournament David Warner hit half-centuries as Australia beat New Zealand by eight wickets in the final on Sunday to win their first-ever T20 Cricket World Cup.
