The Pakistan cricket team’s preparations for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India have been disrupted due to visa delays delaying the side’s departure for the event, which begins in 10 days.
The team and officials were due to go to the UAE last week for a two-day team bonding session in Dubai before proceeding to India where they will face the Netherlands in their first match on October 6.
However, a delay in obtaining visas for the contingent threw the team’s plans into disarray, and the decades-long strained ties between the two countries came to the fore again.
“We planned to spend two days in Dubai [25. and September 26] before we fly to Hyderabad [India] ahead of the team’s pre-tournament warm-up matches,” a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson told Al Jazeera.

“However, we had to cancel the team bonding session due to the delay in getting our visas from India.

The two countries have been bitter rivals since their independence from British rule in 1947. They have fought three wars since then and have strict restrictions on the cross-border movement of their citizens.
