Virat Kohli on Monday added another feather to his cap as he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 13,000 ODI runs to become the fastest in the 2023 Asia Cup Super Four match between India and Pakistan . The former India captain, who continued his innings from night to spare, took just 29 balls to score his 47th ODI century, first taking 55 balls to reach his half-century. In the process, Kohli surpassed the legendary Tendulkar to achieve the feat in his 267th innings. This makes him the fastest batsman to score 8000, 9000, 10000, 11000, 120000 and now 13000 ODI runs.
The fact that Kohli has completed the 13K mountain in 54 innings less than Tendulkar (321 innings) adds weight to the Virat vs Sachin contest. Kohli’s 47th century means he is now just two away from challenging his idol for ODI centuries and three away from catching the great man to reach 50 one-day tons, a remarkable achievement in itself.
