Virat Kohli became the fastest Indian to cross 13,000 ODIs and marked the milestone of 47th in a day in the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match.

Virat Kohli Shatters Sachin Tendulkar’s Record, Achieves Massive Feat With Cricket World Cup 2023 Century

Virat Kohli added another mark on Monday as he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 13,000 ODI runs to become the fastest run-getter in the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four between India and Pakistan. Resuming his innings from the previous evening, the former India captain started with a 55-ball 55 and needed just 29 more to complete his 47th ODI century. In this, Kohli surpassed the legendary Tendulkar and reached his innings of 267, making him the fastest batsman to 8000, 9000, 10000, 11000, 120000 and now 13000 ODI runs.

Kohli completed the 13 km run in 54 innings less than Tendulkar (321 innings), adding weight to the Virat-Sachin debate. Kohli’s 47th century means he is now on the verge of testing his stature for ODI centuries and is three away from surpassing the great man’s 50 a day, which is an achievement in itself. Kohli’s love affair with Pakistan enabled India to post a mammoth score of 356/2, with KL Rahul scoring a century, the sixth of his ODI career. Kohli and Rahul added an unbeaten 233 runs for the third wicket, which is the highest for any wicket in Asia Cup history. It is also Kohli’s fourth consecutive century at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Before the game, Kohli’s 12902 runs required 98 runs, eight of which were lost on Sunday as rain ensured no play was possible after 24.1 overs and India scored 147/2. And on Monday, while at the top combat belt, he competed. Kohli started cautiously, as did his teammate KL Rahul, but deep down they all knew that Pakistan were technically small bowlers and Haris Rauf urged them not to go any further. Game. So when Iftikhar Ahmed came to take his resting place for Rauf, the shackles were broken as Rahul launched an attack that resulted in a superb partnership.

With Rahul running well, Kohli came into the game and found time to counter Shaheen Afridi’s pace. Despite finding his timing, Kohli failed to close the gaps and the frustration was evident every time he hit the ball but failed to make a run. But when Rahul faltered a bit at the 40-over mark, it was Kohli’s turn to explode. From Iftikhar’s side, Kohli smashed him with a six and a four to reach 70. It was his seventh hit series.

Kohli kept his eyes on the sky throughout and kept an eye on the clouds. He knew that with rain on the horizon, India needed to get as much rain as possible and Pakistan would have a big target if they reached DLS. He and Rahul did just that as India scored six more runs. His first four were unconvincing as he edged Naseem Shah past the wicketkeeper for a boundary. Pakistan burned their second criticism against Kohli and it was as if they knew they had to punish her.

Kohli initially had a bit of trouble with Faheem Ashraf, but three boundaries later everything fell into place. While Rahul played a couple of balls to 98, Kohli went from 86 to 97. Another couple took him to 99 and the next ball brought back Kohli’s vintage celebration. Kohli ended India’s innings with consecutive boundaries and sixes from the last three overs, continuing India’s impressive batting streak that saw them record their highest ODI total against Pakistan.

After turning 81, the former India captain refused at least five hits and his batting partner Rahul later explained why.

“He (Kohli) was confused and said, ‘It doesn’t look very good not to win one, it’s still the World Cup and it’s still a big part. I don’t want to look like I’m just trying to do something,” Rahul told the channel.

“But I said, I mean, it’s not a win, but I think we’ll win easily. So if you get to the top and can’t win, you have to try. And in the end he did it. I won’t compete in singles.”

One of the biggest sticking points was when Ahmed fired a ball that went past Kohli’s leg, but umpire Richard Kettleborough didn’t give much notice.

“If Kohli wants to stop the singles from reaching a century then so be it, but it raises questions of integrity if the umpire refuses to call the famous leg side to help Kohli escape.”

When Kohli is bowling singles, with 7 wickets in hand and 10 overs left to score a century, I bowl 5 on the leg side if I am a Bangladeshi bowler. No more nonsense from an older or younger player about “I play for the team.” — Peter Della Penna (@PeterDellaPenna) October 19, 2023

One scathing review described the contest between Kohli’s century and India’s target as “the first close game of this World Cup”.

Some even said that Kohli has the right to watch the innings as he pleases because “India will never lose”.

I do not agree. 1. India would never lose. 2. It is highly unlikely that they need NRR to differentiate themselves from other teams in the table. 3. The century made its fans happy. 4. However, former Pakistan all-rounder Wasim Akram praised Kohli for switching gears with ease as he moved towards his first World Cup goal and third place in all World Cup matches.

“They [Kohli and Rahul] had fun batting, played with the bowlers and ran well,” Akram said on a television program when asked about Kohli’s criticism.
